Better Than Anthropologie Lighted Felt Garland
Inspired by the beautifully styled pages of an Anthropologie catalogue, this lighted felt garland is the perfect decoration to add a cozy feeling and tons of color to your home!
I was inspired by a garland I saw in the Anthropologie catalogue a few years back. I loved the look of the original but wanted to add Christmas lights to make it more festive and strips of lace and brightly colored sari fabric to give it more texture.
The end result is even better than the original!
I have used these lighted felt garlands for so many things in the last few years - to decorate a hotel room, as lighting around my vanity mirror, holiday/party decorations, and I even made some for a friend to use as additional lighting in her family’s camper van!
Making the felt garland is super easy, but it does take quite a bit of time to tie all of the felt pieces onto the string of lights. But, seriously, it’s mind-numbingly easy! So, put on your favorite movie, and let’s get started…

Supplies:
strings of Christmas lights (can use multiple sizes)
felt, various colors
assorted fabric accents
scissors
Steps:
Cut Felt and Fabric Strips
- cut felt into strips 1/2” to 1” wide and at least 6” long
- cut notches into the ends of felt strips, or cut ends at an angle to add visual interest
- cut fabric accents to be at least 4” long - adjusting width depending on thickness of fabric
Twist Lights
- fold Christmas lights in half if using long strand
- wrap 2 strands together keeping the two plugged into each other
Decorate Lights
- starting at one end, tie felt strips onto the strand of lights, avoiding the bulbs
- alternate colors of felt
- after every 5, or so, pieces of felt, add a strip of accent material
- keep adding strips of felt and accent material until the entire strand of lights is full
- plug in and enjoy!!!
These “better-than-Anthropologie” felt garlands can be used in any room that needs a quick pick me up, a pop of color or some soft lighting. They are perfect for celebrations or everyday decorating and are so easy to make!
