Vibrant colors and a festive feeling make it a perfect background for beautiful pictures and fabulous memories!
Best of all, it’s super affordable to create!
Why You Should Make One:
super easy (although slightly time consuming) - anyone can make this
affordable - only a few materials, the main one being from the dollar store
customizable - endless color options, can add any decorations to it, goes with any theme/ decor
elegant - muted colors, exact lengths, metallics
boho/ fun - lots of bright colors, varied lengthsreusable - if you take it down/ roll it up carefully, (we used a clean sheet, laid on top of the fringe to keep it flat) it’s easy to use again.
We made one for Bean’s Bluey Birthday party and then gave it to a family friend for their boys’ party!
Skill Level: Easy
Materials:
plastic fencing (find at Home Depot, Lowes)
scissors/ rotary cutter and mat
plastic tablecloths - I got mine from the dollar store and Party City. I’ve seen large rolls available from Amazon too.
Command Hooks
How It’s Done:
1) Cut Lengths of Plastic Fencing - depending on size you want the final backdrop to be, overlap the edges a bit if using more than one. We used 2 sections of fencing that went from the ceiling to the floor.
Tip: they don’t have to be too long because the streamers cover the bottom but we kept the fencing long so we could secure the backdrop to the wall along the bottom during the party.
2) Hang the fencing with Command Hooks.
3) Prepare the Tablecloth Streamers - keeping the tablecloth folded a few times so you can cut multiple streamers at one time, cut the tablecloth into strips about 1 1/2” wide.
Tip: while you cut, have your kids pull apart/ unfold cut streamers and separate into piles of like colors. You’ll appreciate the time saving help
4) Add Streamers to Fencing - fold 1 streamer in half, bring the loop end up behind a link of the fence(A) and pull ends of the streamer through loop.(B1&B2) Pull gently to tighten.(C)
Tips: plastic fencing has different sized links - use 1 streamer for small links, around 3 for larger links
You don’t have to start at the very bottom, save some time and skip a few rows that will be covered by the streamers above.(D)
5) Work Your Way up the Fencing - switching colors or even textures (glitter, metallic) as you go (D)
6) Trim Streamers - take a step back and look for any streamers that look out of place or too long and give ‘em a trim with some scissors!
7) Customize Your Streamer Backdrop - adding extra streamers, balloons, or garland hides the top of the fencing and also makes it more special and fun!
Tip: if you want to reuse your backdrop after the party’s over just carefully roll up the backdrop from the top down and secure with rubber bands etc.
Whether you're planning a birthday bash, a holiday party, or even a casual get-together, this affordable, yet eye-catching party decoration is sure to impress your guests and transform any event space!
